Titanium Standards Guide

Titanium products are manufactured to international standards that define chemical composition, mechanical properties, and testing requirements.

ASTM Standards (USA - Global): ASTM B265 covers titanium sheet, plate and strip. ASTM B348 covers bar and billet. ASTM B338 covers seamless and welded tube. ASTM B861 covers seamless pipe, ASTM B862 covers welded pipe. ASTM B363 covers fittings. ASTM B381 covers forgings. ASTM B863 covers wire.

ASTM Medical Standards: ASTM F67 covers unalloyed titanium (CP grades) for surgical implants. ASTM F136 covers Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Gr23) for surgical implants.

DIN Standards (Germany/EU): DIN 17850 for seamless tubes. DIN 17851 for bars. DIN 17860 for sheet and plate.

AMS Standards (Aerospace): AMS 4911 for Gr5 titanium sheet. AMS 4928 for Gr5 titanium bar. These add ultrasonic testing and full traceability beyond ASTM requirements.

ISO Standards (International): ISO 5832-2 for unalloyed titanium implants. ISO 5832-3 for Ti-6Al-4V implants.

EN 10204 Certificate Types: Type 3.1 — manufacturer certified, standard for most orders. Type 3.2 — third-party witnessed, required for aerospace and nuclear.
