Titanium Grades Guide

Jul 19, 2026

Titanium grades fall into two categories — Commercially Pure (CP) and Titanium Alloys.

Grade 1 (CP): The softest and most formable at 240 MPa tensile. Best for deep drawing, chemical equipment.

Grade 2 (CP): Most widely used CP grade at 345 MPa with excellent weldability and corrosion resistance. Ideal for chemical processing, marine, general industrial.

Grade 3 (CP): Higher strength at 450 MPa. Used in pressure vessels and structural applications.

Grade 4 (CP): Strongest CP at 550 MPa. Common in medical implants, fasteners.

Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V): Most common alloy worldwide at 895 MPa. Used in aerospace, automotive, sports equipment.

Grade 7 (Ti-0.15Pd): Palladium-enhanced for superior corrosion resistance in reducing acids and offshore.

Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V): High strength with excellent cold formability. Aerospace tubing, bicycle frames.

Grade 12 (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni): Cost-effective corrosion resistance without expensive palladium.

Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI): Medical-grade with tighter oxygen limits for surgical implants per ASTM F136.
